How is this group going to meet?
Our group will be 8 weeks long and take place on the same time and day each week in person at our havelock office. It will be a closed group, meaning the members who register and commit to attending are the only ones permitted to join. We won’t allow drop-in guests or friends to help protect the privacy and comfort of the other members. We are expecting anywhere from 4-12 people in addition to the leaders. Best news, it’s free!
Will it be offered on telehealth?
No, we won’t be offering this on telehealth due to the sensitive nature of the topic and to better protect the confidentiality and privacy of our group members.
What if I can’t make the group, but I really want to work on this topic with a professional?
We completely understand that committing to a group is a challenge. If you’d like to pursue individual therapy to work on overcoming spiritual trauma, we’d be able to accommodate you. Otherwise, we will be working on posting resources, coping skills, and more as a free tool for you.
What to expect in group sessions?
In group, we will build relationships with peers, learn about spiritual trauma, attachment theory, shame, guilt, and more. Part of the group will be educational, but most of it will be conversational and experiential. In between sessions you’ll complete interactive assignments to discuss at our next group. This is a blend between a psychoeducational and process group, meaning there will be both resources to learn about and time to share experiences and learn from other group members.
How do I know if I have spiritual trauma?
Spiritual trauma can look different for everyone, but one common sign is not being able to engage fully in your faith/spiritual practice/or religion without internal conflict. You may feel disconnected from faith, spiritual community, and even beliefs that you used to feel confident in.
Can I and what do I tell my faith circle/religious community about this?
Whatever you want! It’s completely up to you whether you’d like to share your group participation with anyone else. That said, please keep any information that isn’t yours to share about group private. We strongly discourage sharing others personal information or experiences with anyone without their permission.
Speaking of faith and religion- What kind of group is this?
This group is completely non-denominational and isn’t affiliated with any one religion, meaning individuals from diverse backgrounds are more than welcome. We’ve intentionally designed it this way because spiritual trauma may be experienced with many different faiths and beliefs.
How will this group heal me?
As with any therapy, there are risks and benefits. This group may bring up hard emotions and be challenging. However, it may also help you feel less alone, build relationships, explore fears, set goals, and get to the other side of your trauma. Group therapy is known for effectively helping individuals find support and freedom from emotional wounds. The more you engage with the group, the more you will get out of it.
What do I do if I have more questions?
Contact us for more details and if you’d like, ask to schedule a consultation call. I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have with a quick phone call.
