Jacqueline's Healing Journey

Hurt and Healing interviewed our own Jacqueline Figueroa about overcoming fears to obtain an achievement many people never get! Despite doubts, Jacqueline pushed through and kept her faith that she could accomplish anything with the right mindset.

Here is how it went:

H&H: Can you share a significant personal accomplishment that required perseverance and determination?

Jacqueline: One personal achievement that pushed me out of my comfort zone was diving in the open sea.

H&H: What were the biggest challenges or obstacles you faced while pursuing this accomplishment?

Jacqueline: One of the most difficult obstacles to face was fear. During training, they focus on teaching you how to handle fear by preparing for worst-case scenarios. Examples include practicing removing your mask and putting it back on, clearing out your mask, knowing what to do if you run out of oxygen in your tank, and how to rescue your partner and bring them safely back to shore.

H&H: How did you stay motivated during difficult times?

Jacqueline: My husband was a major source of inspiration for me, he had acquired his scuba license a year before I did, and it motivated me greatly. Watching him venture out and discover new things fueled my own desire to conquer my fears. Eventually, I reached a point where I was tired of living in fear and missing out on opportunities, so when the chance arose, I seized it.

H&H: Did you encounter any setbacks along the way? If so, how did you overcome them?

Jacqueline: My main challenge was transitioning from practicing in a pool to doing it in the open sea. It was nerve-wracking to go from a controlled environment where I felt safe to the unpredictable open water.

H&H: Were there moments when you doubted yourself? How did you push through those doubts?

Jacqueline: My biggest doubt or concern was my swimming ability. I consider myself a decent swimmer, capable of staying alive. However, I was unsure if I could rescue someone and nevertheless bring them safely to shore.

H&H: What strategies or resources did you utilize to overcome challenges?

Jacqueline: I surrounded myself with others who shared the same goal, interest and with those who had experience. Not being hesitant to ask questions.

H&H: How did your mindset play a role in your journey towards achieving this accomplishment?

Jacqueline: My mindset was crucial in this journey. It is easy to give up, which is what I was accustomed to. However, I desired change and therefore had to actively seek it.

H&H: Were there any unexpected benefits or insights gained from pursuing this goal?

Jacqueline: Absolutely, anything is possible if you set your mind to it. It’s as simple as that.

H&H: What advice would you give to others facing similar challenges or pursuing their own dreams?

Jacqueline: You can’t say, you can’t until you really try.

H&H: Looking back, what do you believe was the key factor in your success?

Jacqueline: My main motivation was my children. As a mother of two boys, I focused on instilling in them the belief that anything is achievable with determination. It’s important to not just say something, but also follow through with actions.

In summary, Jacqueline conquered her fears and the open seas through motivation and mindset.  We are certainly proud and inspired by her story. Congratulations to Jacqueline on her remarkable achievement!
